Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) announced that the Department of Transportation will bring a $25 million federal investment to upgrade MARTA’s Five Points downtown station through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, bringing good-paying jobs to the region and expanding mobility. Senator Warnock was instrumental in pushing the federal funding to the project, advocating directly to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in April for MARTA to receive “full and fair” consideration of their request for investments from the Department of Transportation. The project, which is authorized via the RAISE program, will improve the bus bays and revitalize the station plaza and public spaces around Five Points —improving passenger safety and experience.

The more easily Georgians can get from place to place, the more they thrive, and the more our communities and economy thrive,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “Safely and efficiently getting Georgians where they need to go is a top priority of mine. And that’s why I’m so glad to announce that I helped secure robust federal investments that will help MARTA increase ridership and service at the iconic Five Points Station in the heart of downtown Atlanta. These critical funds will help ensure MARTA’s rail-car doors open up new opportunities for all residents in and around the Atlanta area, and I’m going to keep fighting for strong federal investments that help move Georgians and our state into a brighter future.”

Senator Warnock has long worked to secure more federal dollars for public transit in Georgia.  Thanks to Senator Warnock’s efforts, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides Georgia with nearly $1.5 billion to invest in public transportation priorities throughout the state. Senator Warnock also successfully fought to secure key updates to the Capital Investment Grant (CIG) program that would allow more Georgia priorities to compete for federal funding; this policy change spearheaded by Senator Warnock has already allowed MARTA to begin planning work on the Clayton County Bus Rapid Transit project.

“The more easily Georgians can get from place to place, the more they thrive, and the more our communities and economy thrive.

“Safely and efficiently getting Georgians where they need to go is a top priority of mine.

“And that’s why I’m so glad to announce that I helped secure robust federal investments that will help MARTA increase ridership and service at the iconic Five Points Station in the heart of downtown Atlanta.

“These critical funds will help ensure MARTA’s rail-car doors open up new opportunities for all residents in and around the Atlanta area, and I’m going to keep fighting for strong federal investments that help move Georgians and our state into a brighter future.

“As a member of the Senate committee that handles transportation, I’ve fought hard to strengthen federal funding for the RAISE program that funnels critical federal investments into important projects like modernizing the Five Points station.

“I was proud to champion efforts to increase funding for that program through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which we got done late last year, and I’m fighting now to bring even more money into that program and to Georgia projects in the annual government funding bill.

“Representing Georgia in the United States Senate is the honor of my life. Know that MARTA—and most importantly, commuters and transit users in metro Atlanta and throughout Georgia—will always have a partner in me.

“Thanks so much. Keep the faith and keep looking up.”
