Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA) announced over $2.5 million in new federal funding for infrastructure upgrades at airports across Georgia. The grants were awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program and made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Macon will receive a $1 million grant to repair its runways and improve safety, and other awardees for the latest set of grants include Cairo-Grady County Airport in Cairo, W.H. ‘Bud’ Barron Airport in Dublin, Reidsville Municipal Airport in Reidsville, Plantation Park in Sylvania, and Toccoa-Stephens County Airport in Toccoa. The combined awards totaling more than $2.5 million in federal funding will go towards parking lot construction, runway infrastructure upgrades, safety enhancements, and more. The funds will be administered by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

“Georgia is one of the most important aviation states in the nation. That’s why I’ve fought tirelessly to bolster federal support for our airports since I came to the Senate, including in the recently passed FAA reauthorization law I was proud to champion,” said Senator Reverend Warnock.“Senator Ossoff and I are going to keep working to take Georgia’s aviation economy to new heights.”

“Georgia’s airports are a key driver of job creation and economic competitiveness. Alongside Senator Reverend Warnock, I am pleased to announce the bipartisan infrastructure law will deliver this new funding for airport upgrades across the State of Georgia. Our bipartisan infrastructure law will continue to deliver long-overdue upgrades to Georgia’s infrastructure for years to come,” Senator Ossoff said.

A longtime champion for Georgia’s aviation industry, Senator Warnock recently secured provisions in the FAA Reauthorization law that will transform the aviation industry, including provisions to bolster aviation workforce development and invest in our aviation economy. Last year, Senator Warnock visited Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to review progress on federally funded projects, including construction of a security checkpoint expansion. In April 2023, Senator Warnock met with local aviation workers and leaders at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport in Chamblee, Georgia to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing workers on the frontlines of the aviation industry; following his visit, the Senator introduced the AIRWAYS Act to strengthen the aviation workforce by recruiting and training future industry workers from all zip codes. Additionally, in 2022 Senator Warnock secured $13.5 million to update nine airports across Georgia, including Augusta Regional Airport and Columbus Airport. The awards announced today were partially funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which included roughly $619 million for Georgia’s airports to improve efficiency, upgrade terminals, and more.
