Senator Reverend Warnock introduced the bipartisan Coast Guard Combat-Injured Tax Fairness Act, which will ensure Coast Guard veterans receive the full benefits they earned through their service

The bill fixes an error in the U.S. Code that excluded Coast Guard veterans from a tax break that applies to combat-related severance benefits

Washington D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) announced the introduction of the bipartisan Coast Guard Combat-Injured Tax Fairness Act, which will ensure Coast Guard veterans receive the full benefits they earned through their service. The bipartisan bill, which is co-led by Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), would fix an error in the U.S. Code originally signed into law as part of the Combat-Injured Veterans Tax Fairness Act of 2016 that excluded Coast Guard veterans from a tax break that applies to combat-related severance benefits.

It’s our duty to ensure all veterans receive the benefits they deserve,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “I am proud to partner with Senator Cassidy to re-introduce the bipartisan Coast Guard Combat-Injured Tax Fairness Act, which will ensure Coast Guard veterans receive the full benefits they earned through their service. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and Capitol should be eager to get this done.”

The proud son of a veteran and stalwart champion for Georgia’s veterans and military communities, Senator Warnock has a strong track record of advocating for the veterans and pushing for them to have access to the full benefits they earned through their courageous service. The Senator recently introduced The Major Richard Star Act, bipartisan legislation to provide combat-injured veterans with less than 20 years of military service their full benefits, as well as a bill to address military hunger. Previously, Senator Warnock fought hard to pass the PACT Act, the largest expansion of veterans’ health benefits in decades. In September 2022, Senator Warnock’s bipartisan Patient Advocate Tracker Act —legislation which will increase transparency and accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for veterans who report concerns they experience with VA health care services—was signed into law, and Senator Warnock also previously worked to successfully pass his bill to study disparities in access to VA benefits.
