They don’t know how to lead us, or they try to divide us” And I think we got to dig deeper, regardless of our politics.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) met with non-profit and local government leaders in the Savannah community to discuss their concerns with the Trump Administration’s haphazard funding freezes and federal firings. These reckless actions from this administration are making it harder for non-profits to provide affordable child care, health care, groceries, housing, and more to Savannahians.

Non-profit leaders shared with the Senator that they are unable to hire or expand services because of the uncertainty of available federal funding. Local government leaders expressed frustration that they cannot make long-term plans to improve the area’s infrastructure or local services.

“Our country is in a moment where, in my estimation, demagogues are trying to divide us because people who have no vision, traffic in division. They don’t know how to lead us, or they try to divide us. And I think we got to dig deeper, regardless of our politics,” said Senator Reverend Warnock during the meeting.“And if you dig deep enough, you’ll discover that your neighbor wants their kids to be okay and their mom and their dad to be okay, our interests are the same. We’ve just got to dig deep enough to see it, and then we have a shot at getting the policy right.”

During the past two months, Senator Warnock has highlighted the harm caused by this administration’s reckless action at a local level. The Senator spoke on the Senate floor last month and uplifted stories of Georgia non-profits harmed by the administration’s funding free. Senator Warnock has fought back against cuts to Medicaid in the tax bill proposed by Washington Republicans, spoke out when theConsumer Financial Protection Bureau was effectively closed, and most recently warned Georgians of the impact when the announcement of five Georgia Social Security Administration offices would be closed.
