Senator Reverend Warnock : “I am honored and excited to have been appointed to such a vital subcommittee under the umbrella of the Senate Finance Committee and look forward to continuing to do the important work of protecting Americans’ and Georgian’s pocketbooks”

Washington, D.C. – Earlier this month, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) was appointed as the Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Trade, Customs, and Global Competitiveness. The subcommittee has jurisdiction and plays an oversight role in all things related to trade for the Department of Treasury, the Department of Commerce, the Office of the United States Trade Representative, and several additional federal agencies.

“I am honored and excited to have been appointed to such a vital subcommittee under the umbrella of the Senate Finance Committee and look forward to continuing to do the important work of protecting Americans’ and Georgian’s pocketbooks alongside Chairman Cornyn,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “The subcommittee’s oversight role and jurisdiction in the global commerce space is incredibly important – even more so now due to the recent tariff announcements from the administration that will no doubt have a devastating effect on Georgia’s families, farmers, small businesses, and thousands of hardworking Georgians in the many fields that uplift our economy.”

Senator Warnock’s appointment came during the Trump Administration’s waterfall of tariff announcements. Many of the proposed tariffs are expected to hit farmers and other import-heavy businesses the hardest.

“My role as Ranking Member on the Trade, Customs, and Global Competitiveness subcommittee will be one of many tools I use to support trade policies that boost Georgia small businesses and jobs, and help Georgia farmers sell their crops internationally,” Senator Warnock concluded.

The Senate Finance Committee will be ground-zero for expected upcoming legislative battles related to proposed efforts to gut federal social safety net programs, as well as promises to extend tax cuts from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act for billionaires and the wealthiest corporations. Senator Warnock has long been a champion for many of the issues under the Finance committee’s purview, from his decade-long fight to expand Medicaid in Georgia to his vocal advocacy for the expanded Child Tax Credit. Senator Warnock has also been a champion in the Senate for tax cuts and credits that support small and large businesses.
