Senator Reverend Warnock Applauds Passage of Senate Resolution Celebrating Black History Month


Resolution commemorates Black History Month and the important contributions made by Black Americans throughout United States history

Senator Reverend Warnock is only the 11th Black American to serve in the Congress’ upper chamber

Senator Reverend Warnock: “Black history is American history, and February is a month that celebrates the remarkable journey of Black Americans’ resilience, strength, and triumphs”

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock celebrated the Senate passage of a bipartisan resolution commemorating Black History Month and the important contributions made by Black Americans throughout United States history. The resolution, introduced with Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Laphonza Butler (D-CA), and Tim Scott (R-SC), recognizes that all Americans benefit from the rich historical legacy of Black culture and celebrates Black History Month as an opportunity to reflect on the complex history of the nation while also continuing to work toward a more equitable future. Furthermore, the resolution acknowledges the suffering of African Americans during enslavement and the continued racial injustices that remain evident in the United States today.

“Black history is American history, and February is a month that celebrates the remarkable journey of Black Americans’ resilience, strength, and triumphs,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “This resolution acknowledges the tremendous progress and victories we’ve made, while also recognizing that the work continues to create the beloved community where every American can prosper, no matter what they look like or where the come from.”

“I am proud to honor the invaluable contributions Black Americans have made to our nation throughout its history,” said Senator Booker.“The American story does not exist without the story of countless Black Americans who have struggled and sacrificed to make our country stronger and more equal. Black History Month recognizes our collective story and its triumphs, while still acknowledging the work left to be done.” 

“Every year, Black History Month presents an opportunity to honor the legacy, contributions, and rich history of Black Americans and how they have shaped our country,” said Senator Butler. “I am glad to join my colleagues in this resolution as we work together to uplift and empower Black communities.”

“Black History Month is an opportunity to showcase how far we’ve come as a nation, to learn from the lessons of our past and strive towards the creation of a more perfect union,” said Senator Scott. “As we celebrate the resilience and contributions of Black Americans past and present, my prayer for our country is that we build on the tremendous progress we’ve made, continue to turn our challenges into triumphs and make the future of America our greatest chapter yet.”
