Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) joined former Comptroller of the Currency Joseph Otting in Atlanta for a bipartisan conversation at the HOPE Global Forums 2024 Annual Meeting. At the meeting, Senator Reverend Warnock and former U.S. Comptroller of the Currency Joseph Otting, a Republican who served under former President Trump from 2017 to 2020, discussed how government and private sector leaders can work collaboratively to help hardworking Americans thrive economically.
During the session, Senator Warnock spoke about the economic apprehension many Georgians and Americans are feeling—including angst about the rising costs of housing, education, childcare, and healthcare. Senator Warnock also highlighted the importance of working across ideological lines, and outlined how he has worked in Washington to find consensus on proposals that benefit working class Americans’ pockets, from his bipartisan legislation to lower insulin costs for everyone who needs it to his successful efforts to work with corporations to address burdensome junk fees.

“People feel this angst. They feel a disconnect between what the talking heads are talking about and where they literally live their lives every single day, when they’re trying to do what ordinary people are trying to do, whether they’re Democrats or Republicans, and that is, take care of their families be able to send their kids, not necessarily to a four year college, but to technical school and community college,” said Senator Reverend Warnock.
“They want to be able to pay for prescription drugs and not go into bankruptcy in order to be healthy,” Senator Reverend Warnock continued.
From supporting workers coming together unionize, to working to lower housing and prescription drug costs, to successfully fighting to help secure some $175 billion in student debt relief for roughly 5 million Americans, to successfully passing the largest tax credit for working families in expanding the child tax credit, Senator Reverend Warnock has been a champion in the Senate for working class people, and has focused on advancing efforts to lower everyday costs on hardworking Georgians and Americans, save low and middle-income families money, create good-paying jobs and strengthen the nation’s workforce pipeline. Earlier this year, Senator Warnock introduced legislation to address the affordable housing crisis, pushed President Biden to cancel student debt, and has made lowering the cost of prescription drugs, particularly insulin, a top priority of his in the Senate.
