Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) applauded the recent announcement from Secretary Brooke Rollins, that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will issue $10 billion in economic assistance to American farmers through the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP) for the 2024 crop year. Senator Warnock has continuously fought for and supported efforts to get American farmers the economic support they need.
The funds will be administered by the USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) and will help alleviate the financial burden agricultural producers face caused by the impacts of increased input costs and falling commodity prices.
“Farmers are literally an answer to our prayers: ‘Give us this day our daily bread’. Despite working for thin profit margins, having to brave the elements, and operating through economic uncertainty Georgia farmers never waiver in their commitment to bring food to our tables,” said Senator Warnock. “These funds will help alleviate some of the financial burden that farmers have to endure. Georgia is an agriculture state, and I will continue fighting for federal assistance to support our farmers for generations to come.
Senator Warnock has long underscored the importance of economic assistance and disaster assistance, when needed, for Georgia farmers and agriculture workers around the country. Senator Warnock fought for the inclusion of agricultural disaster funding in any end-of-year government funding package, which included $10 billion in economic assistance for row crop farmers, including cotton and peanut farmers in Georgia. Senator Warnock has led multiple letters urging that any economic or disaster assistance for farmers be disbursed as quickly as possible. As a veteran member of the Senate committee overseeing federal agriculture policies, and as a senator representing a state with a proud and prosperous history of agriculture excellence, Senator Warnock is vigilant in defending programs that help Georgia farmers keep more profits in their pockets and keep the industry at the frontlines of Georgia’s success.
