Senator Reverend Warnock secured $5 million to help complete the Atlanta BeltLine’s Southside Trail
Senator Warnock fought to include funding for this and other local Georgia projects in the recently released Fiscal Year 2022 (FY2022) appropriation bills including over $95 million in total for Georgia
Senator Reverend Warnock: “When I visited the BeltLine last June, I promised the small business owners, commuters, and community members who will rely on the BeltLine Southside Trail for work and play that I would make sure the federal government continues to do its part to help finish this critical transportation loop, and that is exactly what I did. I am proud to deliver this important federal investment for them and the entire metro Atlanta area. I’m eager to see—and bike—the completed Southside Trail”
In June, Senator Warnock biked the BeltLine with officials to examine unfinished areas hampering economic mobility and safe transit, and pledged his full support for the BeltLine’s completion
Previously, Senator Warnock helped secure an additional $16.4 million toward completion of the Southside Trail
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) announced $5 million in new federal investments he secured to support the completion of the Atlanta BeltLine. The funding, championed through the government funding process by Senator Warnock, will assist the completion of the BeltLine’s Southside Trail. The federal investments were successfully included in the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY2022) appropriations bill which includes additional investments and policies supported and pushed by Senator Warnock that will benefit Georgians in every corner of the state.
“Our Atlanta BeltLine is essential to expanding economic opportunity, connecting our neighborhoods and pushing our communities toward a greener, safer, more commuter-friendly future for all of us. When I visited the BeltLine last June, I promised the small business owners, commuters, and community members who will rely on the BeltLine Southside Trail for work and play that I would make sure the federal government continues to do its part to help finish this critical transportation loop, and that is exactly what I did. I am proud to deliver this important federal investment for them and the entire metro Atlanta area. I’m eager to see—and bike—the completed Southside Trail!” said Senator Reverend Warnock.
Senator Reverend Warnock has been a strong advocate for the Atlanta BeltLine in the Senate, including previously securing more than $16 million to help complete the Southside Trail last November. Additionally, in June of 2021, Senator Warnock biked the BeltLine, alongside BeltLine CEO Clyde Higgs and other key officials, where he examined the need for federal funding toward its completion. During this visit, he saw the unfinished areas of the BeltLine where he observed unsafe school crossings, hampered small businesses, and potential greenspace that could be optimized for recreation.
