Senator Reverend Warnock Statement on Third Anniversary of the January 6, 2021 Attack on the U.S. Capitol

Senator Reverend Warnock: “Our nation still teeters between the promise of January 5th and the profane desecration of January 6th, and it is up to us to choose which path we will take”

Senator Reverend Warnock:  “May we use this anniversary to reflect and rededicate ourselves to the covenant we share with one another as Americans, and may it reaffirm our shared commitment to the grand and noble idea of a government ‘of the people, by the people and for the people”

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) issued the following statement ahead of the third anniversary of the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

On January 6, 2021, a day after the people of Georgia helped write a new chapter in the story of our country by electing our state’s first Black and Jewish senators, the nation experienced an unconscionable attack against the very foundations of our democracy when destructive forces attempted to usurp the peaceful transfer of power with violence and intimidation. On the third anniversary of that fateful day, Americans in Georgia and across our country honor the fallen U.S. Capitol police officers who defended our government from insurrection, as well as the courageous law enforcement officers who protected our Capitol and preserved our republic.

“Our nation still teeters between the promise of January 5th and the profane desecration of January 6th, and it is up to us to choose which path we will take. May we use this anniversary to reflect and rededicate ourselves to the covenant we share with one another as Americans, and may it reaffirm our shared commitment to the grand and noble idea of a government ‘of the people, by the people and for the people.’”
