Washington D.C. — This week, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) announced the application is open for Georgians to make congressionally directed spending requests in the annual government funding process for Georgia-based projects, a process previously known as earmarks. Every spring, Senator Warnock’s office begins soliciting input for government funding requests from people and communities in every corner of Georgia, working diligently to secure direct funding for projects that benefit people across the state—especially projects that would benefit rural and underserved communities, and projects that address key local priorities like improving access to affordable health care, water and sewer infrastructure repair, tackling climate change, supporting the state’s military installations and communities, strengthening public transportation and mobility, and more.

“As a voice for Georgia in the Senate, I’m committed to ensuring Washington is doing its part to help the people of our state thrive, and I’m looking forward to working as I’ve done in years past to direct as many federal investments as possible to fund vital projects across our state that will improve health care outcomes, create jobs and new economic opportunities, and more,” said Senator Reverend Warnock.

In the FY ’23 government funding package, Senator Warnock successfully secured $129.49 million in direct federal investments for 64 Georgia projects and initiatives through congressionally directed spending requested on behalf of stakeholders across the state. This congressionally directed spending secured by Senator Warnock represented more than 40 counties across Georgia, and amounted to an additional $18.10 million over what Senator Warnock secured for Georgia projects through congressionally-directed spending in the FY ’22 government funding package. The application for programmatic funding requests will be opened after President Biden presents his annual budget request to Congress, which is expected in early March.
