Washington D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) announced Qcells is creating 2,500 green Georgia jobs through the largest investment ever in solar manufacturing in North America. The announcement comes after Senator Warnock successfully shepherded his Solar Energy Manufacturing for America Act into law, along with Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA), as part of the Inflation Reduction Act. Qcells’ $2.5 billion investment will complete the first and only entirely domestic solar supply chain. Groundbreaking for the new Bartow County facility is expected in the coming months.

“I’m proud to have helped lead the fight to make Georgia the top state for good-paying, clean energy jobs,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “This announcements comes after months of close collaboration with Qcells, Senate Leadership, and the Administration to make the Solar Energy Manufacturing for America Act a reality. I look forward to a continued partnership with Qcells to create Georgia jobs and grow our manufacturing economy.”

“Georgia could soon be the solar capital of the world, thanks in large part because of the continued support from Senator Warnock,” said Qcells CEO Justin Lee. “It’s clear that he sees what a clean energy future means not only for communities across Georgia but for the country. Senator Warnock’s unwavering support is helping pave the way for countless new jobs, lower energy bills, and cleaner air. We look forward to continuing our work with him and building our clean energy vision together.”

Last Congress, Senator Warnock introduced the Solar Energy Manufacturing for America Act, which has now been signed into law. The legislation creates tax incentives for every step of the domestic solar manufacturing supply chain and create new jobs for Georgians at facilities like Qcells in Northeast Georgia —supporting American energy independence, and accelerating the nation’s transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. Senator Warnock ensured this legislation was signed into law as part of the Inflation Reduction Act. Additionally, in September 2021, the Senator urged the Office of Management and Budget to close loopholes in the federal solar procurement process to better support American jobs and American solar manufacturers. These federal efforts have helped pave the way for companies like Qcells to thrive in Georgia. Finally, in the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding package, Senator Warnock secured incentives for the federal government to power federal properties using American-made solar panels, which supports American jobs and manufacturers like Qcells.
