Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) released the statement below following reporting that the Senator’s $35 insulin out-of-pocket cost cap legislation would be added to the text of the Inflation Reduction Act. The news follows reporting that Senate Republicans would not support the bipartisan INSULIN Act, which included Senator Warnock’s $35 insulin out-of-pocket cost cap.

“While I’m disappointed that Washington Republicans killed a popular, bipartisan plan that would significantly improve access and affordability for insulin users, I’m pleased that my plan to cap insulin costs at $35 a month is being added to robust legislation that will strengthen health care access and lower rising costs for Georgians,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “I’ve been working on this for months, and I’m going to keep fighting to bring much-needed relief to insulin users in Georgia and around the country, however, we can get it done.”

Senator Warnock, a long-time champion of affordable, quality health care, introduced the Affordable Insulin Now Act, which caps the out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35 for insulin users on private insurance and Medicare plans. The Senator has worked since February to build support in his party for the legislation, including garnering co-sponsorships from a majority of his Democratic Senate colleagues as well as securing the bill’s bipartisan passage through the House of Representatives. Additionally, the Senator has garnered major endorsements for his legislation, including from the American Diabetes Association. On Monday, Senator Warnock challenged seven major health insurers to reduce or eliminate the out-of-pocket costs of insulin for their respective beneficiaries.
