Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) celebrated the inclusion of his plan to put a $2,000 out-of-pocket cap on prescription drugs under Medicare Part D in a draft legislative proposal from Senate leadership to lower costs for Georgians—demonstrating new and growing momentum to pass his cost-reducing provision that will save seniors money on prescription drugs. The legislative proposal, also known as the reconciliation bill, would also reform federal drug pricing policy to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, which would bring down costs for prescription medication. Senator Warnock is a proud supporter of legislation to allow for Medicare to negotiate drug prices.

“Passing my plan to cap seniors’ costs of prescription drugs is a no-brainer, and it’s great news for seniors in Georgia and across our country that it’s included in the portion of the draft economic package being reviewed right now by the Senate parliamentarian,” said Senator Reverend Warnock.“No senior should have to ration or skip the medication they need because they can’t afford it, and I’m going to keep pushing with everything I have to move my legislation forward and get it across the finish line. Georgia’s seniors can’t wait any longer for Congress to take action and address high prescription drug prices.”

Only July 1, Senator Warnock chaired the Senate Aging Committee’s first field hearing in Georgia to discuss the urgent need to lower prescription drug costs for seniors, and highlighted his efforts in Washington to pass legislation to that effect. The hearing, titled “Affordable Prescriptions Now: Examining Legislation to Lower Costs for Seniors,” took place in Fayetteville, Georgia, and featured live testimony from local patients, health care professionals and medical experts.
