WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) announced $5 million in federal investments he secured to build a MARTA operations and maintenance facility in Clayton County—bringing good-paying jobs to the county and expanding mobility for local residents.

“Strengthening MARTA’s presence in Clayton County helps create jobs, provide commuters with affordable options to get around, bolster the local economy and combat climate change,” said Senator Reverend Warnock“I fought to include investments for this critical project in the funding package, and I’m glad it’s inches away from getting over the finish line. I’ll continue to work closely with commuters and MARTA officials and employees on how I can best support Atlanta’s public transportation needs.”

The new Clayton Multipurpose O&M Facility will increase system efficiency and reduce operational costs. It will support 31 regional bus routes and 250+ buses. The facility will also include a MARTA Police Precinct, training areas, bus maintenance, transit operations office, administration office, bus fueling point, bus inspection, repair facilities, cleaning facilities, bus parking and employee parking. This project is estimated to support over 350 construction jobs, as well as more than 700 new permanent jobs.

Federal funding for this project was appropriated as part of the $95 million successfully secured by Senator Warnock for Georgia projects in the FY2022 government funding bills. A full list of Senator Warnock’s approved Congressionally-directed spending requests can be found HERE.
