Senators Reverend Warnock, Ossoff Secure Funds to Upgrade Affordable Housing in Rural Georgia

Washington, D.C. –– Georgia U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff secured funding to upgrade affordable housing for low-income Georgians in rural areas.

The funding from the American Rescue Plan will help ensure residents in Southwest and Northwest Georgia have access to quality, affordable housing.

The Georgia recipients are:

  • Housing Authority of the City of Tallapoosa ($100,000)
  • Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, Inc in Moultrie, GA ($119,841)
  • Southwest Georgia Regional Commission in Camilla, GA ($100,000)
  • New Foundations Development, Inc in Calhoun, GA ($150,000)

“Our rural communities are the heart of our state and too often lack equitable access to housing, transit, and economic opportunity, so I’m deeply committed to working in Washington to reverse that trend in Georgia. I am proud this critical investment will flow to some of our most underserved rural communities because everyone deserves to live in dignity with a roof over their heads,” said Sen. Rev. Warnock.

“Every Georgia family needs safe, quality, affordable housing. My team and I are standing by to help Georgians in any way we can at Ossoff.senate.gov,” said Sen. Ossoff.

Local housing authorities will get the funding for the repair and rehabilitation of housing owned or occupied by low- and very-low-income rural citizens.

Sens. Ossoff and Warnock have been working for several months to address Georgia’s affordable housing crisis.

In August, Sen. Ossoff secured commitments from three top Biden Administration nominees to join officials and community leaders across Georgia to address the shortage of affordable housing.

Strengthening access to affordable housing and eliminating barriers to home ownership are top priorities for Sen. Warnock. In September, Sen. Warnock introduced the Downpayment Toward Equity Act to provide Federal grants to aid first-generation homebuyers.

Additionally, both senators have worked to secure major funding for investments in affordable housing and emergency housing vouchers for Georgians.
