Sens. Rev. Warnock, Ossoff previously secured nearly $85 million for Georgia’s HBCUs from the American Rescue Plan
Georgia’s senators personally led push in Senate for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, ensured funding is grants instead of loans
Washington, D.C. –– Today, Georgia U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff announced more than $175 million in new funding they secured for Georgia’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities through the American Rescue Plan.
Today’s announcement comes in addition to the nearly $85 million Sens. Warnock and Ossoff secured for Georgia HBCUs in May.
Sens. Warnock and Ossoff are champions for Georgia’s HBCUs and led the push in the U.S. Senate to ensure HBCUs had equitable access to federal COVID-19 relief funds in the form of direct grants.
“As an HBCU graduate, I am grateful to see additional funding flow to HBCUs in Georgia to help them continue opening doors of possibility and opportunity for the bright minds of the next generation,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “I was proud to work alongside Senator Ossoff to secure these funds for the faculty, staff and students who continue to excel at these institutions, and will keep fighting to strengthen federal support for our HBCUs in Georgia and beyond.”
“I will never stop working on behalf of Georgia’s HBCUs. Sen. Rev. Warnock and I are pleased to deliver this additional funding for HBCUs as they prepare for this upcoming school year and continue to help students recover from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sen. Ossoff.
