Washington, D.C. – This week, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) made calls to Georgia parents and beneficiaries of the expanded Child Tax Credits, legislation Senator Warnock championed to include in the American Rescue Plan. Senator Warnock heard directly from fathers, mothers, and single parents across the state on how these payments are making impacts in their households. On the calls, the beneficiaries of this tax cut celebrated the payments, calling them “timely” as their children prepare to go back to school, as the state and local Georgia economies bounce back, and as they continue to work to overcome the economic and health-related challenges of the pandemic. Last week, eligible Georgia families and families across the country began receiving their monthly payments.

Back in March, Senator Warnock took to the Senate floor to advocate for children living in poverty across the nation, underscoring the urgent need to invest in Georgian—and American youth to secure opportunity and prosperity for generations to come.

Read highlights of U.S. Senator Warnock’s calls with Georgia parents below:

Senator Warnock: “How will the child tax credit help you?”

Denise of Columbus, GA: “For me personally, just getting my girls ready to go back to school. I am also experiencing a transition in employment, so its beneficial that it came in a timely manner to help me with managing the upkeep and maintenance of my household.”

Senator Warnock: “Tell me this: how will the child tax credit help you?”

Montu of Athens, GA: “I think it is going to allow me to save. Right now, we don’t really have the room to save. This is going to give us some foundation, a little cushion to start saving again.”

Senator Warnock: “I’m reaching out to some of the folks in Georgia after the expanded child tax credits are starting to roll in, have you gotten yours yet? [… ] I am rooting for you and London [daughter of Alicia] . We’re going to try to make this tax credit permanent. That is what I am fighting for.”

Alicia of Columbus, GA: “I have. I received the first one on the 15th. Thank you Senator!”

Senator Warnock: Let me ask you this, what difference would it make if we were able to make this child tax credit permanent?

Robert of Macon, GA: “Oh wow, you know Senator, one can only dream.”
